Despite a poor shooting effort by Karl Malone, Jordan's 33 points and Scottie Pippen's 21 points were not enough to overcome the Jazz in game 1.  Luc Longley committed a key turnover down the stretch and Scottie Pippen missed an opportunity to put the Bulls ahead in the closing minute of play.   John Stockton scored seven of Utah's nine points in the OT thriller.

Steve Kerr led the Bulls bench (15 points) and grabbed a crucial rebound off his own miss and fed the ball to Michael Jordan (37 points) who converted a three point play with 47 seconds left.  Despite double figure scoring from Hornacek (20 pts), Malone, Russell, and Stockton, the Bulls held the Jazz without a field goal during the opening seven minutes of the fourth quarter en route to knotting up the series at a game apiece and wresting home court from Utah.

The Bulls turned up the heat in the second quarter and completely dismantled the Jazz, who set a new NBA mark for playoff futility since the advent of the shot clock.  Chicago used Scottie Pippen as a "free safety" to overcome Utah's pick and roll offense.  The Jazz had no counter measure.   Every uniformed player scored for Chicago, and enabled Michael to sit out the entire fourth period.

Karl Malone took it upon himself to stave off the eventual champions for another 48 hours as he scored 39 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished off 5 assists. Antoine Carr, perhaps angered by callers to his hotel room, came alive and contributed 12 points off the Jazz bench. An ailing Scottie Pippen was only able to chip in 6 points and offest a tremendous performance by Toni Kukoc (30 points on 11-13 shooting.) Michael Jordan desparation shot at the buzzer missed badly.

Jordan gets his revenge as he makes a key steal and nails a 10 foot jumper with 5.2 seconds left to capture the Bulls' sixth title in eight years.  It's  hard to imagine that there are any doubters left as Michael scores 45 points in one of his vintage performances.   After the game and during the victory celebration, Phil Jackson insisted this was his last dance.
