The first hour has Jethro Tull’s “Curious Ruminant,” Pink Floyd’s “See Emily Play,” Supertramp’s “A Soapbox Opera,” Stu Phillips with “4 O’Clock Tea (Laudanum),” and Premiata Forneria Marconi’s “Photos of Ghosts.” PFM are the Italian prog band whose 1973 album of that name was released in English with lyrics by Peter Sinfield, the original lyricist for King Crimson. Saturday
Psychedelic Psaturday with DJ Kaigem (1 pm ET, replay at 11 pm ET): Eric opens this week’s show with The Underdogs and their Motown single “Love’s Gone Bad.” From there he moves on to Nice Biscuit, a Brisbane, Australia band who blend psych-rock with krautrock and garage on their 2024 album SOS, then San Francisco’s Quicksilver Messenger Service and Syd Barrett, the founding frontman of Pink Floyd. Next up is The Electric Flag, a band with some well known members, including guitarist Mike Bloomfield and drummer Buddy Miles, but it never matched the success the individual players found elsewhere. After the next break come The Easybeats, the Australian band behind the 1966 hit “Friday on My Mind,” followed by Vienna’s Hypnotic Floor, who mix psych, kraut and prog rock with fuzzy riffs and spaced-out synths. Eric will tell you more about these bands during the show, so tune in and turn on.
The Flower Power Hour with Ken & MJ (2 pm ET): Dig three hours of peace, love, and psychoactive audibles. Hour 1 flies Jefferson Airplane’s Volunteers album, with The Byrds, Steve Forbert, the Sutherland Brothers, Faces, the Stones, Little Feat, Melissa Etheridge, Richie Havens, and CSNY along for the ride. In Hour 2, Ken & MJ tangle with UFOs and ETs, with far out tunes from Klaatu, Yes, the Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, and more, wrapping up with a massive interstellar closer from Pink Floyd. Then they get a good buzz on with a Rush feast in Hour 3, with side dishes of Spirit, Argent, Joni Mitchell, REO Speedwagon, Muddy Waters, and Paul Simon. Plus comedy and spoken word from the Firesign Theatre, Monty Python, Father Guido Sarducci, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Complimentary magic dust, BYO munchies.
