Song of the Day – Prince at Super Bowl XLI

The greatest football game of the year has had quite a variety of performers over the years, but none better than Prince at Super Bowl XLI in Miami at Dolphin Stadium.

Nine of the first ten Super Bowl halftime shows featured marching bands in some capacity. Game IV was a tribute to Mardi Gras which included Marguerite Piazza, Doc Severinsen, Al Hirt, Lionel Hampton Southern University Marching Band.

Disney and Coca Cola produced the interlude for XXV and had New Kids on the Block as performers. The next two years saw Gloria Estefan, then Michael Jackson as the first bona fide superstars who took the stage in Minneapolis and Pasadena respectively.

Since then it’s been a parade of rock, pop, country, and hip-hop stars, none better than his purple majesty on February 4, 2007. The rain, the mist, and the purple lighting made for an unforgettable performance.
