This Weekend on Acid Flashback Radio: November 6-8

Here’s what’s on Acid Flashback Radio this weekend. For more on each show, see our weekend shows page.

Friday

Acid Flashback Friday with DJ Uncle Steve (noon ET): Birthday salutes go out to Doug Sahm of the Sir Douglas Quintet, George Young of the Easybeats, Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey, and Living Colour’s Corey Glover. Steve also marks the day in 1967 when the Beatles were at Abbey Road mixing four songs, and you’ll hear all of them: “Hello Goodbye,” “Your Mother Should Know,” “Magical Mystery Tour” and “I Am the Walrus.” Check out Today in Rock History to see what happened in the past on this day.

Saturday

Psychedelic Psaturday with DJ Kaigem (1 pm ET, replay at 11 pm ET): Eric opens this week’s show with Yes and “Clear Days” from their 1970 album Time and a Word. After the first break, he plays Spahn Ranch’s gothic take on the Doors’ “Strange Days,” then Buried Feather, J.K. & Co., Nazz and Consortium. Before the second break comes Dark Dazey with “Toadstool” from their brand new album. When he returns, it’s Frankie and the Witch Fingers, followed by The Castaways, Love, Hooveriii and Elephant’s Memory. After the last break, Eric brings in Dave Cousins, the longtime voice of the Strawbs, then The Sheeps, Grand Funk Railroad, The Atlantics, and Tokyo’s Kikagaku Moyo. Eric will tell you more about these bands during the show, so tune in and turn on.

The 1968 self titled debut by The Nazz

The Flower Power Hour with Ken & MJ (2 pm ET): Three hours of peace, love and psychoactive audibles. Hour one features Jesse Welles, recorded live on Austin City Limits, surrounded by Joan Osborne, Neil Young, the Who, Santana, Journey and Jimi Hendrix. Hour two is a music and interview show with members of California’s Highway Wolf, plus Ry Cooder, Steely Dan, the Isley Brothers, Delaney and Bonnie and more. Then a replay from the vault closes the show, with the Strawbs in the spotlight alongside Uriah Heep, Janis, Dylan and Baez, and a two-fer from Donovan. The magic dust comes from the Firesign Theatre, the Goon Show, Cheech & Chong and Alan Watts. Complimentary, as always.

Sunday

Sunday Time Warp with Bart Shore (3 pm ET): This week’s Time Warp (Show #814) mixes rock, soul and a little funk. Leon Russell plays “Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” Poco has “You Better Think Twice,” and J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton team up on “Danger.” Bloodrock brings the heavy “D.O.A.,” and from Pittsburgh come The Jaggerz with “The Rapper” and Donnie Iris with “Ah! Leah!” (Iris sang lead on “The Rapper” before going solo). The Byrds are in twice, with “Have You Seen Her Face” and “I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better.” The Electric Flag play “Groovin’ Is Easy,” then Average White Band and the Ohio Players close the funk side with “Put It Where You Want It” and “Love Rollercoaster.” Gladys Knight & the Pips ride “Midnight Train to Georgia” early in the show.

Psychedelic Time Warp Show #20 (4 pm ET): This week’s show has no theme, just a big mix of Jeff Beck, Elvis Costello, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Derek & the Dominos, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Genesis, Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. You’ll also hear live tracks from David Bowie, Steppenwolf, Savoy Brown and Chicago, a Beatles outtake, and Ozzy Osbourne covering Status Quo. Plus comedy from Woody Allen and the National Lampoon.

All Hand Mixed Vinyl with Bill Fitzhugh (6 pm ET): This week’s opening chapter of All Hand Mixed Vinyl features Steve Forbert, Hot Tuna and Captain Beyond. The second half brings an all-time great segue from Led Zeppelin into a Supertramp song that has to be heard to be believed. At the break, a 60-second Sopwith Camel Levi’s commercial leads into Maria Muldaur’s “Nobody’s Fault But Mine.”

The Grateful Dead Hour with David Gans (7 pm ET), Show #1989: David returns to the Dead’s September 21, 1974 show at the Palais des Sports in Paris, this time with “Eyes of the World” flowing into “China Doll.” Then he jumps ahead fifty years to Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, recorded January 12, 2024 in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and released through nugs, with the full “Terrapin Station” suite.

The Zecom Hour with Bart Shore (8 pm ET): This week Bart has the new Rolling Stones, plus Lou Reed, Leon Russell, Tom Petty and Steely Dan, and much more.
