Music News for March 17, 2025

Guster Tour, Rod Stewart residency, and Cat Stevens live release in this week’s music news.

Guster and The Mountain Goats will embark on an eight-date tour beginning July 27 in Chautauqua, NY and will wrap up on August 3 in Hampton Bays, NY. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 21 at 12 pm local time. More information and up-to-date news is available at guster.com

Ahead of the newly announced tour with The Mountain Goats, Guster will join Barenaked Ladies for the June leg of their annual “Last Summer on Earth” tour, beginning June 3 in Atlanta through June 28 in Bend, OR.

Guster’s ninth studio album and first new LP in more than five years, Ooh La La marks a bold departure for the venerable band with a lush and acclaimed expansive sound rich in acoustic guitars and graceful piano work. Mainly produced by Josh Kaufman (The National, The Hold Steady) at Woodstock, NY’s Isokon Studio, with additional production from Ron Aniello (Bruce Springsteen, Bryce Dessner) and Rich Costey (Death Cab for Cutie, Of Monsters and Men), songs like the shimmering first single, “Keep Going” radiate an emotional undercurrent of undeniable warmth, telegraphing an irrepressible joy in the face of turmoil and unrest.

Saturnight: Live from Tokyo 1974 is receiving a full global release for the first time ever to mark its 50th anniversary! The show was recorded on June 22, 1974 at Sun Plaza Hall in Nakano, Tokyo, on the Japanese leg of the 1974 “Bamboozle World Tour.” However, this incredible testament to Cat Stevens’ live performances at the peak of his powers has never received a full worldwide release due to contractual reasons between Island Records and A&M Records – until now!!!

Cat Stevens - Saturnight

The Saturnight CD will be packaged with a 16-page booklet featuring lyrics and new retrospective recollections from those who were there, including bassist Bruce Lynch and the band’s 1974 tour manager Carl Miller. The Saturnight vinyl will be available on 140-gram black vinyl or as a limited edition pressing, available only via CatStevens.com, uDiscover Music and Sound of Vinyl on 140-gram lava splatter vinyl.
