10. Radio Shadow – Leans towards classic rock, but generally avoids much of the overplayed songs. There’s great prog too. As always, you’re able to vote up or down songs &/or artists. I’m always checking out Radio Shadow.
09. Giants of Jazz – I’m a huge jazz fan, still exploring the depths of the genre. I like channel hopping from time to time mixing jazz with prog & psychedelic, creating my own diverse musical soundscape. I linger longer when a favorite or other interesting artist is played. Outstanding year end specials, especially Giants of Jazz’s Top 100 Jazz Albums of All Time, 2024 was a great tool for future research & ongoing education. Many thanks to Alan Brownwell! Giants of Jazz truly is keeping jazz alive.
08. Radio Brent – Overall, a very good music mix. Tends to lean towards classic rock, but there’s good prog there too. I’m always checking out what’s playing on Radio Brent with many happy returns.
07. Handcrafted Radio – In my opinion, this channel’s gotten better with time. There’s lots of great classic rock, but some really deep prog favorites as well. I find less tune out factors of overplayed songs here. Handcrafted Radio is one of the most highly listened to channels on Internet FM.
06. Radio Free Phoenix – The DJ’s set the vibe & are dedicated to keeping good music, mostly rock alive, including much great prog. This channel is highly entertaining & definitely worthy of repeated visits. If you’re a rock fan you’ll find lots to like here, even the occasional new classic rock artist song. It’s a fun time here!
05. Planet Radio – You guessed it, I’m here for the prog, but there’s some great classic rock also. Diversity must also apply, as you’re never quite sure what’s coming up next. Thursday’s is all retro-radio, as I’d call it. It’s like going back in time. For me, much like the playlist of WTIX, New Orleans. That’s why I’ve recommended it to friends. Overall, it’s a great music mix, putting most terrestrial stations to shame.
04. St. Louis Classic Rock – It’s dedicated to the preservation of rock from known classics to surprisingly obscure prog. I’m still discovering songs and bands I’ve never heard, but really like. Lately this channel’s full of surprises. It’s one of Internet FM’s very best!
03. RootsFM – St. Louis based, it’s got DJ’s, many of which are musicians, & all are dedicated to keeping rock alive. Some of my favorite prog is found here. Many longer tracks are definitely heard on Saturday nights with Bill Neal. Especially entertaining are the live concert broadcasts held several times per year, which have included Mama’s Pride & Jake’s Leg, a fine jam band. Monday & Thursday nights is the “C-sides Show” with Rick Comello’s exclusive deep prog tracks. It’s almost like traveling back to a time when radio was good.
02. Acid Flashback – It’s the flagship channel of Internet FM & diversity is it’s key. There’s some great prog, lesser played songs of the classic rock era, music of the Canterbury scene, psychedelic rock, jazz-rock, newer music, including bonus tracks from re-releases & much more. Special Programs include Friday’s with Uncle Steve, Flower Power Hour, The Grateful Dead Hour, Psychedelic Time Warp & DJ Kaigem’s Psychedelic Psaturday at noon Saturdays with lots of info on new releases as they are paired with their classic psychedelic counterparts. There’s even a complete classic album side uninterrupted at midnight. Acid Flashback is truly a unique musical experience!
01. Psychedelicized – Amazing, educational, highly listenable, & still adding songs & groups from the Psychedelic era. Their website has more info on many of the artists. It’s an example of how internet only channels can offer an historical music mix, many of which FM rarely or never aired. Some have only fairly recently been discovered/recovered. Jason has done the research so you don’t have to. Pychedelicized is music preservation at it’s finest!
