The Les Grobstein Book

Upcoming book to celebrate the legacy of Les Grobstein.

One of Chicago’s most beloved sports reporters will be the subject of a new book.

Les Grobstein’s career in local and national sports spanned nearly fifty years. It began at Wrigley Field, where he would record his own play-by-play on a portable tape recorder, and included WLS-AM where he was a sidekick to Larry Lujak and Tommy Edwards.

The Grobber would eventually host his own overnight broadcasts on WLUP AM 1000 and the Score WSCR 670. He even managed to work for us for a few years, as sports expert on the “Pro Football Showdown”, and co-host of the short-lived “Weekend Sports Report” on WKRS in Waukegan, IL.

Steven Leventhal, Alison Moran, and Les co-hosted the Weekend Sports Report
Les and his sister Holli

Holli Grobstein Levine and InternetFM’s own Steven Leventhal, who covered sports alongside Les for more than two decades, are teaming up to write a book that honors Les’ memory with anecdotes and recollections from his family, fellow sports reporters, and even the fans to whom Grobstein was one of their own.

The book forward has been written by former WLS colleague Tommy Edwards.

The printing of the book by Eckhartz Press will be supported in part by crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to PAWS Chicago, since Les was fond of animals and animal charities.

Les’ fans and others will be able to contribute to the stories in the book using the form below. If you just want to get the occasional update and get notified when the book is available for purchase, skip past to the email signup form below.

We are crowdfunding the printing of the book. The anticipated cost is $20 + $5 shipping and handling.

On our GoFundMe page you can “donate” the $25 and receive a signed copy by the two co-authors. Even better, the first 100 fans who plunk down an extra nine dollars – $34 – get a sweet deal… A signed copy of the book and one of Les’ press passes. We have a limited number of the actual Bears, Bulls, Hawks, Sky, and other team passes that Les used for his sports coverage.

This page will also keep readers informed of our progress.

Have a Les memory you want to share? Use the simple form to send us your recollections.

Any submissions are subject to editing for clarity and conciseness. In most instances we’ll use only first names and last initial, unless you wish to remain anonymous.

And as the lawyers would point out – all submissions become part of the book. So please check and double check before hitting “send”.

Thanks,

Holli and Steve

Please give us your recollections, stories, or memories of Les Grobstein. All submissions may be subject to editing for clarity, grammar, or condensed to fix the book requirements.
I'm not submitting a memory - Or - I also have a comment or question. Here's the place for that.

Here is a short video we made during Les’ tenure on “The Pro Football Showdown.”
