Dean Smith Memories – 2/12/15

February 12, 2015 by Steve Leventhal

Dean-Smithwith Dave Rusch and Steve Leventhal…..

on the Weekend Sports Report our guests Fred Pearlman and Bob Heymann share their recollections of North Carolina coach Dean Smith and some great games in Tar Heel lore, as we recount the legacy of coach Smith, who was much more than just coach. Dean was a teacher, a mentor of young men, and a socially conscientious leader during some very turbulent times in college sports.

Smith wasn’t the only basketball icon to pass away. Dave talks about his days in Las Vegas during the tenure of Jerry Tarkanian.  Lastly we cover the controversy over the Jackie Robinson West Little League team from Chicago, the Blackhawks loss to Vancouver in overtime, and coaching moves made by the Green Bay Packers

Hear interviews from a member of the Jackie Robinson West, and Hawks coach Joel Quenneville. Also Dick Vitale makes a cameo appearance.
