This Weekend on Acid Flashback Radio: October 16-18

Here’s what’s on Acid Flashback Radio this weekend. For more on each show, see our weekend shows page.

Friday

Acid Flashback Friday with DJ Uncle Steve (noon ET) features birthday salutes for Nico (1938), Fred Turner of BTO (1943) and Bob Weir (1947), plus a look at Surrealistic Pillow in honor of Grace Slick’s first appearance with Jefferson Airplane on October 16, 1966, at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. We’ll also play the original (and very different) Great Society version of “White Rabbit,” one of two hit songs she brought with her from her previous band. More on this day in rock history.

Saturday

Psychedelic Psaturday with DJ Kaigem (1 pm ET, replay at 11 pm ET): Eric opens this week’s show with Blue Cheer and “Good Times Are So Hard to Find” from their 1970 album BC #5 The Original Human Being. From there he moves on to CAN, then The Godz and Wand, followed by of Montreal and Caramel. Eric will tell you more about these bands during the show, so tune in and turn on.

The Flower Power Hour with Ken & MJ (2 pm ET): Endorphins abound this week on The Flower Power Hour with Ken & MJ. Chillax as they feature Robert Plant in the 1st hour and the Steve Miller Band in the 3rd hour, and a double feature of the Moody Blues and Steve Cropper in Hour 2. Plus a plethora of prayers for peace and a dusting of magic by the usual suspects. Void where inhibited.

Sunday

Sunday Time Warp with Bart Shore (3 pm ET), Show #811: This week’s Time Warp has 10cc’s “Rubber Bullets,” Tee Set’s “Ma Belle Amie,” and The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” Bart also digs up Gun Hill Road’s “Back When My Hair Was Short,” The Tremeloes’ “Silence Is Golden,” and Dr. John’s “Iko Iko.”

Psychedelic Time Warp Show #18 (4 pm ET): a generic show with Jethro Tull, Smashing Pumpkins covering The Cars, the Moody Blues, ELP, Led Zeppelin, Traffic, the Beatles, Pink Floyd (from 1967), Talking Heads, the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Black Sabbath. There’s live music from David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, the Allman Brothers Band, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Miller and the Doors. Plus comedy from Cheech & Chong, and a classic SNL skit with Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter.

All Hand Mixed Vinyl with Bill Fitzhugh (6 pm ET): This week’s batch of All Hand Mixed Vinyl starts with some acoustic Neil Young and Ry Cooder then manages a transition to The Glimmer Twins and The Dead. Later in the hour, we swing into high gear with a jazzy collection involving Joe Jackson, Joni Mitchell, the Pointer Sisters, Good Rats and more!

The Grateful Dead Hour with David Gans (7 pm ET), Show #1986: Warren Haynes brings “Shakedown Street” from his symphonic album Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey. I saw Warren at Ravinia in 2016, when he led the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration with an orchestra and former Jerry Garcia Band vocalist Jaclyn LaBranch, so this one is close to my heart. The 50th Anniversary Remaster of Steal Your Face delivers “Casey Jones.” Part two is from the Dead’s April 30, 1977 show at the Palladium in New York City, with “The Music Never Stopped,” “Bertha,” “It’s All Over Now,” “Deal,” “Mama Tried” into “Me and My Uncle,” and “Fennario.”

The Zecom Hour with Bart Shore (8 pm ET): This week Bart spins rare Jimi Hendrix, new Neil Young, classic John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Amy Winehouse, and much more.
