Bones In 3D

November 11, 2014 by Marty Masters

This time on program *256* of The 3D RadioActivity, we are spinning tunes for and about bones, the rigid organs that constitute part of the endoskeleton of vertebrates. They support and protect the various organs of the body, produce red and white blood cells and store minerals, and are a type of dense connective tissue.  Like everything nowadays, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, have a complex internal and external structure, are lightweight yet strong and hard, and serve multiple functions.  In the human at birth, there are over 270, but many of these fuse together during development, leaving a total of 206 separate ones in the adult, not counting numerous small sesamoids and ossicles. The largest in the human body is the thigh or femur and the smallest ?  That would be the Stapes of the inner ear, more commonly known as the horseshoe.  So let’s put that particular one to good use.
