They are presented by the American Theater Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in New York City, as they are given for Broadway productions and performances, and an award is given for regional productions. Considered the highest U.S. honor, the New York industry’s equivalent to the Oscars for motion pictures, the Grammys for music, the Emmys for television, the Laurence Olivier Award in the United Kingdom and the Molière Award of France.
